JEE (Main) 2016: Important Facts, Syllabus, Preparation Tips & More

JEE (Main) is conducted every year for admission to top engineering institutions in India such as IITs, NITs, and institutions in participating States. Of the total 13 lakhs applicants, only the top 1.5 lakh students are selected to appear in JEE (Advanced). However, this year the IIT council has decided to select at least 2 lakh students for JEE (Advanced) 2016. To secure a seat in one of the top IIT institutions, students need to prepare well and follow a proper strategy.
Some Important Facts Of JEE (Main)

·         The JEE main is attempted by more than 13 lakh students every year.

·         The objective of the Joint Entrance Examination was to make engineering entrance exams unified and reduce the pressure of several exams on students.

·         In India, not all states have accepted the JEE selection system. The states that have joined JEE system are Maharashtra, Gujarat, Nagaland, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand, and Odisha.

·         This year 2016, more than 2 lakh students will be selected for JEE Advanced 2016 through the JEE (Main) 2016 test.

·         The number of attempts has been increased to three from two for the session of 2016.

Syllabus-Wise Description

The syllabus for JEE Main keeps changing, but for the last three years, the exam was conducted in two-tier process that includes Paper I & Paper II of three hours each. To do well in the examination you’ve to go through the entire syllabus carefully. Especially in the last two months of preparation, students have to pay close attention to the topics and sub-topics from each chapter.

Chemistry

The syllabus of Chemistry for the JEE exam includes Organic, Inorganic, and Physical Chemistry. Students have to give their best to score well in this section.
Physics

The syllabus of Physics includes Basic Mechanics, Waves, Electromagnetism, Optics, Modern Physics, Advanced Mechanics and Thermodynamics. You have to work on your basic concepts and need to work more on practice than theoretical studies.

Mathematics

When preparing for Mathematics, you would have to work on the topics like Differential Calculus, Integral Calculus, Trigonometry, Algebra, Coordinate Geometry, and Statistics & Mathematical Reasoning.

Best Books for Reference

NCERT Books

The question paper for the JEE Main is mainly designed from the NCERT books, so it’s better to take reference of NCERT books for learning the theory of important subjects.

Private Author Books

For a deeper understanding of theory, students can take help of IIT exam question papers, last year questions papers, and prefer books like H.C. Verma for Physics, O.P. Tandon for organic chemistry, S.L. Loney for geometry & trigonometry, etc.

Another useful strategy is to take help from academic experts or coaching centers. As they help to analyze the difficulty level of each chapter to tell you which chapters are more important and worth more marks. This way it’s easy to learn new chapters & topics, and you can also score high in JEE (Main).
